Roland Chambers

Roland grew up in the Cotswolds and studied film and literature in Scotland, Poland and New York before returning to England, where he wrote and illustrated his first children’s book, The Rooftop Rocket Party. His biography of Arthur Ransome, The Last Englishman, won a Jerwood Award from the Royal Society of Literature and the HW Fisher prize from the Biographer’s Club. Roland’s illustrations have appeared in The New Yorker, and his writing in the Guardian, the Times, and the Sunday Times.
