Born in London, into a theatrical family, Fern started her professional life as a stage manager. Theatre life was great fun but within three years , in 1980, she graduated to television and became a presenter on Westward Televison . Here she achieved her ambition of living in Cornwall.
Since then Television has been her home. She spent 14 hears as a journalist before winning the job of presenting READY STEADY COOK for the BBC .
THIS MORNING for ITV came next where she won several awards and nominations.
Her interview programme FERN BRITTON MEETS … is in it’s fifth year and guests have included Tony Blair, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Dolly Parton and Cliff Richard.
Fern is presenting a new show called GROW, MAKE, EAT: THE GREAT ALLOTMENT CHALLENGE for BBC2 in the spring of 2014.
In 2008 she published her autobiography. FERN:MY STORY for Penguin, and was then asked by Harper Collins to write a novel.
A bit scared, she accepted the challenge. NEW BEGINNINGS, HIDDEN TREASURES, THE HOLIDAY HOME were duly published , and the fourth A SEASIDE AFFAIR is out in the spring of 2014.
All her stories are set in her beloved Cornwall.
Fern has twin sons and two daughters and is married to the lovely Phil Vickery. The house is usually full of good food, wine, family, friends and gardening books.
Fern cycles many hundreds of miles for Professor Robert Winston raising money for his GENESIS RESEARCH TRUST, a charity that is constantly looking to improve the health of mothers and babies around the world.
She has a motor cycle licence, an honorary doctorate ,for services to broadcasting and charity ,and is a member of Mensa.
