I read English Literature at University College London and at Dartmouth College in the USA. After working as a bookseller, in 1986 I joined the publishers Macdonald Futura as a children’s book editor. Since then I have worked for a number of publishers including Harlequin Mills and Boon and Penguin Books, where I was an editorial director. In 1997 I became a literary agent, joining Sheil Land Associates, where I worked for eight years before setting up LBA in 2005. I have been personally responsible for discovering and launching the careers of a large number of bestselling authors. In addition to my day job, I am Honorary Professor of Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University and I run a literary competition with the Montegrappa Emirates Festival of Literature. I also run the Good Housekeeping Novel Competition, and in 2016 I set up the Daily Mail New Novelist Competition with Penguin Random House. In 2010 I won the Bookseller Industry Award for Literary Agent of the Year.

I am not currently accepting submissions. This page will be updated with my manuscript wish list once that changes.
